As HCANJ's President, Paul is responsible for advocating on behalf of the organization's over 300 members that include assisted living communities, nursing, residential health care, and comprehensive personal care facilities, and adult day health service centers in the areas of legislative and regulatory issues, as well a overseeing a broad range of membership support services.
Before joining HCANJ, Paul served as president of the New Jersey Association of Health Plans where he was the co-architect of the nation's first statewide voluntary agreement among insurance carriers to provide coverage for the routine cost of medical care in cancer clinical trials. He also served in the New Jersey State Department of Health for over 20 years including as Assistant Commissioner and Senior Assistant Commissioner from 1985 through 1995, during which time he managed the work group that redesigned the state's Charity Care Program and oversaw the complete restructuring of the Department's Certificate of Need system.
Tom responsibilities include helping members with Medicaid, Medicare and other reimbursement issues and managing HCANJ's reimbursement and health care data. Tom also oversees HCANJ's web site.
Tom was previously employed in the Office of the Controller of the New Jersey Department of Human Services. He has also worked as a Rate Setter at the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services and as a Supervising Analyst in the Nursing Facility Reimbursement Office at the New Jersey Division of Medical Assistance and Health Services (Medicaid).
Kathy is responsible for HCANJ's assisted living and residential health care membership. In this capacity, she provides advocacy, licensing and regulatory assistance, educational programming, and professional development tools.
Prior to coming to the HCANJ Kathy worked for Presbyterian Homes & Services, Inc. (PH&S) for 12 years in various capacities including Social Worker, Resident Services Coordinator and Administrator in the company's continuing care retirement communities, nursing homes and residential health care facilities. She was responsible for the licensing of New Jersey's first Assisted Living Program in affordable housing, and was ultimately responsible for PH&S's assisted living programs, as well as Family Care Network, an information and referral program for elder care and child care resources. She served on the American Association of Homes & Services for the Aging's Assisted Living Network. She has spoken at local, state and national conferences on a variety of topics, including grief, quality assurance and assisted living, is an instructor for Assisted Living Training Associates, which trains individuals interested in the assisted living field and serves as an evaluator for the Continuing Care Accreditation Commission.
Pattie is responsible for HCANJ's public relations programs, media relations, member communications, grassroots legislative support efforts and special events, including the Annual Awards Program. She the editor of the monthly newsletter, Health Care Update, the quarterly e-magazine, E-Xchange, and the HCANJ Annual Directory and Buyer's Guide.
Pattie was previously employed by Chelsea Senior Living in a number of capacities including Director of Communications, Regional Marketing Director and Community Affairs Director. She has also worked as the Public Information Officer for several New Jersey school districts, as well as having served as Community Relations Coordinator and Assistant Director of Community Relations for several major New Jersey medical centers. In addition, Pattie has owned and operated a marketing, public relations and advertising consulting firm serving a broad range of clientele. She has spoken at local, state and national conferences on a variety of marketing and communication topics.
Carol is responsible for the development, production and marketing of healthcare educational programming, annual state conferences, and expositions sponsored by HCANJ. She is the main staff liaison to the HCANJ Education and Convention Committees.
She was formerly the HCANJ Director of Membership Services, along with several other positions within the Association since 1977. Prior to joining the Association, she was employed by the Superior Court of New Jersey.
As part of a grant received from the DHSS, Gary will establish and provide training for an emergency/disaster preparedness and response plan for HCANJ's members.
Gary's previous experience includes serving as Executive Director in the areas of Operations Planning & Logistics, Engineering & Instrument Systems, and Engineering & Manufacturing, as well as Director, Engineering Technology and Associate Director of Systems Development over the past several years for Orchid Biosciences, Inc., Princeton. In addition, he served as Vice President of Peak Instruments, Inc., Pennington, and Vice President of Operations for Datacolor International.
Dan is responsible for the Association's statewide continuous quality improvement program aimed at enhancing the quality of care for the residents of long term care facilities.
Dan has over 38 years experience as a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator and Registered Professional Nurse. Previously, he served for 11 years as the Administrator of Inglemoor Care Center of Livingston, NJ, a 120-bed nursing facility where he successfully developed a 60-bed subacute care program. He also spent 11 years as the Administrator of the 120-bed Ashbrook Nursing Home in Scotch Plains, NJ, as well as having worked as a practicing nurse in a variety of acute care and long term care facilities throughout New Jersey and New York.
Dan had previously served with HCANJ on a number of committees including Best Practices, Subacute Care and Health Planning, and was also appointed to a number of private, municipal and state boards and committees including the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services Assisted Living Licensing Regulation Work Group.
John's responsibilities include maintaining relationships with state
legislators, tracking related legislation and lobbying efforts on behalf of
HCANJ's membership.
A former Director of Intergovernmental Affairs in the Kean Administration,
John has more than 20 years of experience in public policy, community
outreach, political campaigns and advertising, crisis management and media
relations. He served as Senior Vice President in a full service public
relations firm as the lead government affairs agent representing a broad
range of client companies and trade organizations before the NJ Legislature
and executive branch.
Andrea has many years experience in bookkeeping and the management of office services and staff. She serves as HCANJ's personnel manager as well as managing accounts payable and receivable, member dues, and payments for seminars and conventions. She is also the office receptionist, and she maintains HCANJ's membership and statewide facility and vendor database.
Pam is responsible for an array of clerical duties including the Association’s numerous mailings. She assists staff in a variety of tasks.
